When Paul Butler mentioned he was off to Newport to “hit the boards” my first thought was to join him… but after realising he is used to knocking about with some really handy club cyclists who use words like “pro” and “elite” to describe each other, I figured I’d make my excuses!

But still wanting to hook up with Paul for a coffee, and with Newport Velodrome only an hour away, I figured I could see Paul, take some action shots from my portfolio and enjoy watching some rides with serious skills show how it’s done.

What follows are a small selection of my shots of Paul in action!

Kat and Adrian Wedding

I especially enjoyed shooting Kat and Adrian. It was great to do an engagement shoot with them and meant we were all much more relaxed when they were all dressed up!

Great fun and I think the relaxed style of the images speak for themselves. I managed to great some individual portrait shots of both of them too.

Another great wedding shoot today. It was great fun and relaxed into the shoot getting some great portraits as the sun was setting.

Framed Portraits

In a digital age it’s always nice to get pictures printed…

…but all that stuff can be costly, time consuming and a bit of a pain.

Luckily I have the solution. I arrange for my client’s images to be printed, mounted and framed. The images themselves look stunning, and whilst I shoot digital now, they remind me of the days I flicked through a freshly developed set of film prints. Those were the days. There really is something quite magical about seeing images on something other than a screen.

Anyway, see some recent client examples below. They are all 18 x 12 images mounted up and in a 24 x 18 frame. A simple black box frame with a lovely single white mount.

Informal portraits of children – a walk in the park!

A lovely opportunity to photography my god-children today… Hey, I understand people getting photos with the studio photography look… But it’s really not my cup of tea.

So many parents tell me they prefer the much more natural photographs I create, which is probably the most satisfying part of my work. It’s not whether *I* like the images, at the end of the day it’s whether the parents like them… Kids have a “look” or a quirky smile that you can see only if you spend some time with them. There really isn’t a short-cut. I spend time with them, get to know them and then photograph them only when they are 100% comfortable with me.

I might pull together a blog post with my top 10 tips, or something.

Anyway, here is my latest selection.

Letterpress Business Cards

My new letterpress Business Cards have arrived!

Designed by Aleksey Belyalov and printed by Blush°°. I love them! The cool grey (a slightly warmed up 18% grey for the geeks among you) really works well with the pink.

One of my requirements was that I had some whitespace on the cards to jot down notes for clients, which has already been handy! And the beautiful paper stock Blush used make the cards a joy to handle.

So a big thanks to both Aleksey Belyalov and Blush°°!

Lots of fun today. I did a quick family photoshoot with two lovely sisters. It was informal and in the garden, but I was able to get a variety of headshots and photos of them both.We had lots of fun together, they were both really really good and I am really chuffed with the photos.

I really loved the spotty shoes (hence the second photo) and actually they came up with the idea of sitting on this step next to a frog (?!) and taking the first one. Maybe future apprentices!
